One of the most fun and exciting things we do at TFH is to jump into a new season's Collection with a marathon photo shoot. We just wrapped our latest one for The Feathered Head's Fall/Winter Collection in the studio of one of Santa Barbara's most talented and sought after wedding and event photographers, Matt Roberts of Rewind Photography (www.RewindPhotography.com). To complete our team, our star model, Mollie Shepardson, was tasked with bringing all of The Feathered Head's pieces to life. To say that Mollie is one of the most stunning women on the planet may sound like an exaggeration but trust me, it's true. The fact that she's smart, accomplished and a joy to be around...well, that's just icing on the cake. Starting at 4am, clad in flannel cow pajamas and rollers (sorry, no picture of that), Mollie began her amazing transformation. Several hours later, we set up in Rewind Photography's Santa Barbara studio. As Matt and I consulted about the roughly 100 bridal and cocktail fascinators, veils, clips, headbands, vintage hats and accessories we needed to shoot, we discussed the overall look we wanted to achieve. Here's how he summed up the way Rewind Photography and The Feathered Head worked in partnership to craft the new 2015 brand image look for TFH's new creations:
"This year we planned on lightening up the entire look and feel of the shots, opening up the shadows, but still keeping in line with the high-end fashion feeling the images had in the past. Previously, we approached the image brand with a low key, moody, dramatic look with sizzle in the edge lighting; we opened up our shadows and our background to craft a softer feel. In keeping in line with The Feathered Head's elegance and sophistication, we approached this shoot with a lighter grey tint rather than open up to a full white. This left a creamy gradient that created the perfect palette to showcase the white and lighter colored headpieces without losing the high-end fashion look-and-feel to a bright white background. Andie's hand craftsmanship really pops off the model and it's easy pre-visualize her work at a wedding or cocktail party through the final images we created together."
We powered through over 2,000 pictures, with Mollie miraculously coming up with a different look for not only each piece but practically each shot. First bridal looks in stunning gowns from Unique Vintage in Burbank, CA (www.Unique-Vintage.com). Our new collection will offer a wide array of white, ivory and champagne bridal hair accessories and veils (birdcage and traditional) with some featuring feathers, vintage jewelry and millinery, Swarovski crystals, silk flowers, lace and a variety of other materials. Most were hand-crafted and one of a kind. Then a gorgeous smorgasbord of cocktail headpieces, ranging from fascinators to restored vintage hats, were shot. I marveled at at how Mollie was able to interpret the feel of every headpiece, spanning the spectrum from glamourous to playful to sultry to flirty. About the experience of the shoot, Mollie said: "I always look forward to shooting with The Feathered Head and Rewind Photography. It's truly inspiring to work with Andie Cohen-Healy and Matt Roberts; they are incredibly talented and motivated artists. The energy on our sets is always uplifting!" And she's absolutely right! Music pumping, great collaboration and what promises to be our most exciting Collection ever! As we work fast and furious to get the shots edited and up on The Feathered Head's site, here are a few behind the scene shots:
